I’m always looking at ways to make our dollar go further.  Don’t get me wrong, there are certain brands I’m faithful to and would never substitute.  However, there are some store brands that are just as good, if not better, than name brands.  Wouldn’t you like to save money without skimping on quality?  Well Dollar General Brands are equivalent to the nation brands and come with a 100% guarantee so why not start trying some of their products?

I recently took a challenge of trying five Dollar General Brands from different categories to compare to the “big name” competitors.  The five categories I tried were food, health, personal, cleaning, and baby products.

Clover Valley Food Products

There were a bunch of things to choose from in the Dollar General Clover Valley Brand that I use almost every day.  I was really impressed at their special purchase of granulated sugar.  Where are you going to find a 4 lb. bag of sugar for $2?  I don’t care if you are blindfolded or not, you could never tell the difference between the Clover Valley sugar and your brand except in regards to price.

Since we cook a lot we decided to try the Clover Valley Bread Crumbs Italian Style as well. I used to be pretty brand loyal in this category but you can tell by the photo that this brand looks nearly identical to the other national brand.

Its mosquito season in Florida and since we live right on the canal to Lake Toho we are especially prone to mosquitos.  We use the Dollar General Brand anti-itch cream with the same active ingredients found in the national brand.

Baby Products

Hubby cannot sleep when his feet are hot and dry therefore we go through a lot of lotion.  The Dollar General lavender scent baby lotion is perfect for his feet during the night when they are hot and dry.  Spending only $1.50 a bottle saves us a lot of money each month.

Personal Products

Body wash can be pretty expensive, but the Extra Moisturizing Dollar General Brand Body Wash is under $3 for 18 fl. oz. and that is a steal!  It works great too and it’s perfect for dry skin during the hot summer in Florida.  I haven’t had to use lotion since I started using the body wash.

Cleaning Products

One of the best ways to save money at Dollar General is by purchasing their cleaning items.  Everything I have tried has measured up to national brands when I brought them home to use.  Right now we are using the toilet bowl drop-ins because our water has a high iron count and it helps keep our bowl clean and without that orange/red build up associated with high iron.
