Our Baby Proofing Mishap

This post brought to you by HUGGIES. All opinions are 100% mine.

Some things are obvious when it comes to baby proofing your home.  Nearly everyone knows that you should have sharp objects out of reach, put covers over your electrical outlets, and locks on your chemical and household cleaners securely in their cabinets.  Overall most parents do whatever they can to make sure their babies are active, happy, and dry.

Our Baby Proofing Mishap

When my oldest son (Ethan) was a baby we were very diligent about ensuring his environment was safe.  But like any other parent every once in a while something will slip through the cracks and one day while I was at work I called home to check in to see how he was doing.  His dad and I were on the phone for only a second when he went outside to have a cigarette (yes, my ex smoked).  Ethan (he was nearly 2 at the time) was sitting quietly watching his favorite morning cartoon only two feet from the sliding glass door.  His dad decided not to bother him and went out the door to smoke where he could keep his eye on my son. As fast as you could imagine Ethan walked over to the sliding glass door and locked his dad outside.  Fortunately I was on the phone and left work immediately to come home and unlock the front door.

My ex-husband tried desperately to get him to unlock the sliding door, but Ethan was one of those active babies and took the opportunity to explore the beach bag sitting on the table instead while his dad looked on in horror.  I’m not sure if they still have that purple tanning lotion you put on your kid to ensure you don’t miss any spots.  If they don’t I am not surprised.  Although the purple turns white after a while when applied to babies and toddlers it doesn’t turn white when applied to carpets.  Yes, Ethan got the tube of purple tanning lotion and created beautiful carpet art while his father watched helplessly.

I often wondered if this was how Picasso got his start.

Overall most parents do whatever they can to make sure their babies are active, happy, and dry.  That is the focus of HUGGIES® as well.  Their products provide peace of mind for parents so they can concentrate on keeping their babies safe while they are discovering and experiencing their environments.
