You Are What You Eat

You Are What You Eat

 you are what you eat

My sister’s family has made the change to only eating grass-fed beef hot dogs which they purchased online.  She is not alone.  It seems to be one of the hottest trends out there.

No GMOs.

Clean Eating.

No HFCS.

Gluten Free.

If you are what you eat then I’m in trouble!  I have to admit that I am one of the worst offenders of the eat good bandwagon that has hit mainstream today.  Granted I’m not the worst.  I do not eat pork, beef, chicken and more hot dogs.  I eat beef hot dogs.  The truth of the matter is I like how beef hot dogs taste.  I grew up on pork, beef, chicken hot dog blends but as an adult I have learned to differentiate between the two.  I must confess though that my kids can’t tell the difference and they eat whatever kind is put in front of them.  But I am realizing now that it’s important for me to make the healthier choices for them.

I’m not a fanatic.

Although I am realizing that it is important for me to start buying healthier choices, I will never be the mom that buys only gluten free, no GMO, and no HFCS products. There are a lot of moms out there that do it, but I would be lying if I were to tell you that I’m one of them.  Honestly, I don’t even know exactly what GMOs are but I imagine I’ve been eating them for a very long time and I’m pretty sure my mom and grandmother all ate them too.  So what’s the right answer for me?

Be more aware.

Make the easy choices.

Incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into my kid’s diets.  Cut back on processed meats.  Encourage them to drink more water.  Heck, I might even try the grass-fed hot dogs the next time I’m at the store.
