Share a Selfless Selfie and Donate to a Cause at the Same Time

I’m a fan of donating to good causes.  I’m also a fan of sharing my life via photos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and everywhere else I can find to post.  It only makes sense to incorporate the two and thanks to Johnson & Johnson’s new app, Donate a Photo, I can do that once a day.  It’s a free app and for every photo shared through Donate a Photo, Johnson & Johnson will donate one dollar to one of its non-profit partners, which YOU choose from a rotating list.  You can help a newborn thrive with Save the Children or Restore a Public Park with Keep America Beautiful.  There are a bunch of different causes to choose from with the most recent being:

• PFLAG: One photo helps protect a child from bullying
• Girl Up: One photo helps a girl in Liberia go back to school
• Safe Kids: One photo helps a child in Mexico get to school safely

The Causes:

PFLAG: All funds donated through the DAP PFLAG cause go to provide materials (brochures, flyers etc.) for anti-bullying sessions. These sessions reach students, teachers and school leaders with messages about cultivating respect and keeping schools safe for all.

Girl Up: All funds donated through the DAP Girl Up cause help provide outreach efforts to girls, parents and community leaders, provide literacy, numeracy and livelihood training to out of school girls, and helps establish local PTAs to champion girls’ education in Liberia. These efforts help girls return to and stay in school, often after years of absence.

Safe Kids: The Safe Kids Safe Roads initiative aims to teach children and parents about bike helmet and car seat safety. The program achieves these goals both through in-school sessions, as well as through awareness efforts via online promotions and social media.

Getting started is as simple as downloading the Donate A Photo app for your iPhone or Android smartphone. Register for an account, choose a cause, and take a photo (or upload one already saved).  You can share it on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to show your friends and family in hopes of getting them involved in helping the cause.  Photos  you normally would share now have an impact.  You can share one photo a day and Johnson & Johnson makes the donation.  Each cause has a goal and when that goal is reached a new cause will take it’s place.  You can even see and share the impact of your contributions. Even though the donations are made through a mobile device, the photos are accessible to anyone on any device including desktop computers.
