Switching Your Dog’s Dog Food – Brindie is a Pedigree Brand Ambassador

Brindie has been asked to be a Pedigree Brand Ambassador and switch from her regular food over to Pedigree.  Switching your dog’s food can be a tricky thing if not done right, but we got great information on how to switch and we were able to do it these past couple weeks easily.  Over the next six weeks I’ll report back on how Brindie is doing with her new chow and will include some dog lover tidbits as well.

Switching Your Dog’s Food

Be sure to slowly transition your dog to the new food by inserting increasing amounts of the new food into his or her regular food.   In our case we went with the new Pedigree.  For the first two days we mixed 25% of the new food into Brindie’s current dry dog food.  I was somewhat afraid she wouldn’t eat, but she took to it immediately.  Not that she usually does, but she didn’t leave a morsel.  On the 3rd and 4th days I increased the amount of Pedigree to 50%.  Again, there was no problem with her processing the new food.  On the 5th and 6th day we increased again to 75% and by the 7th day she was eating purely Pedigree.

Four Universal Needs

Over the next few weeks we will assess Brindie based on the Four Universal Needs:

Skin & Coat

  • dull and flaky, average, shiny and soft

Oral Care

  • dirty, average, pearly white

Digestion

  • number of stools per day and quality (I can’t promise this.  I’m not keen on county poops.)

Immunity

  • how often does your pup get sick?

Have you tried the new Pedigree Dog Food?  Have you ever transitioned your dog to a new food?  How did he/she do with it?

  1. Shadow is a Pedigree Ambassador as well. However, he is pretty used to switching foods as I tend to buy what looks most interesting at the pet store. He likes the new food, but it is not my job to count poop either. . .that is why I have four sons!

  2. Penelope says

    A working dog€¦good for him 🙂

I didn’t realize that dogs were so picky and it could be difficult to switch their food.

  3. If your dog ever gets an irritable stomach, everyone says to give them chicken and rice. We’ve only switched Speckles a couple of times and, using the method you described, it worked well.

  4. I would like to thank you for sharing this good information, cause I have my beloved pet, and I don’t know what to feed, or which is the best dog food to choose.

  5. Nice article. Learned a few things about switching dog foods, the ratios and all that. Might give Pedigree a try too! Thanks!
