What Did You Say? I Should Put The Bean in My Ear? Huh?

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Etymotic. I received a product to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

What Did You Say?  I Should Put The Bean in My Ear? Huh?

Over the last year my family has been driving me nuts!  They say I’m hard of hearing, but I really believed they were just mumbling or intentionally talking “away” from me instead of in my direction.  Maybe it was the television that made it hard for me to hear what others were saying or the air conditioner running in the background.  Whatever the environmental distraction was it really was making me believe I needed a hearing aid.  More than any other word in my vocabulary I said “what”.  I said it so much my boys and my husband absolutely refused to repeat themselves because 9 times out of 10 I would just ask them again as I walked closer to make sure I could hear them.  I am too young for a hearing aid!

More and more I found myself just shaking my head “yes” and smiling only to be called out by whoever was talking.  Anywhere there was background noise whether it be a fan, talking people, or even the washing machine running I had a hard time differentiating words and understanding what people were saying.  I heard them speaking but I couldn’t understand what they were saying.  Their words were doing an exotic dance with the white noises around me and I as left feeling defeated.

I wanted help, but since I was only 46 years old I felt funny asking for a hearing aid from my doctor and quite frankly, I didn’t feel like I needed one.  I just needed something to amplify the voices around me without amplifying the noise. I didn’t want to wear something all the time.  I needed mostly around the house and found that The Bean was perfect for my needs.

The Bean made a great difference when watching television, when working in the back of the house, and while talking while others in the room carried on conversations at the same time.  The Bean worked so well that I had to make several adjustments to the filters to lower the amplification to fit my needs.  Other than the seven different ear tips that ensured a good fit for my tiny ears I found the volume switch and filters were extremely valuable to me.

As you can see from the photo The Bean is very discrete.  With my hair down you wouldn’t even know I had them in my ear. I love that it comes in three different colors too – bronze, platinum, and brushed gold.

In the package you will find:

  • The BEAN Quiet Sound Amplifier
  • 7 eartips of different sizes and materials for best fit and comfort
  • Package of batteries (size #10 zinc-air)
  • Filter tool and extra filters
  • Leather case

The thing that sold me on The Bean is that I didn’t have to worry about insurance covering it or getting a doctor to prescribe it to me – you can order it straight from the company with no referral.  If your family is getting frustrated repeating themselves over and over you might just need to put The Bean in your ear!
