Richard Petty Driving Experience Junior Ride-Along

Orlando travel offers some of the most fun places for children to explore, but if you ask my 9 year old son where the best place to go is he will tell you the Junior Ride-Along at Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World.  A couple months ago he got to experience what is was like to drive a race car on a track just like they do in NASCAR.  From the moment he put on the race suit he couldn’t wipe his smile off his face.  I don’t think I have ever seen anyone smile as much as he did that day.  Part of it was probably nerves as the anticipation of going around the track at over 100 miles an hour was about to be reality and part of it was pure happiness.  It was priceless and on that day I think I was the best mom in the world.

JUNIOR RIDE-ALONG

Junior Ride-Alongs program at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Daytona International Speedway and Walt Disney World Speedway provide children, who are 6-13 years of age and at least 48 inches in height, the opportunity to experience real-life racing excitement while they ride shotgun with a professional driving instructor for three thrilling laps in a specially equipped two-seat NASCAR race car.

The Junior Ride-Along program generally is offered between 9am to 4pm on days we are on track on a first come, first serve basis.

If you are worried, don’t be.  The racing seats have been custom built to make sure the kids are safe and secure and each car outfitted for the kids has built-in shoulder and head protection as well as a five-point safety harness.  They kids are also outfitted with a helmet and jumpsuit just like a real NASCAR driver.  There are plenty of photo ops and you can even purchase a video of your child that shows you their viewpoint as well as the third person view and speed of the car.

The three laps in the two-seat NASCAR race car are sure to be something your child will remember for the rest of their life.
