Recycle Your Electronics at Best Buy

I never thought about it before.  Did you know that you can go to Best Buy to recycle your broken electronics?  The best part is the program is absolutely free both here and in Puerto Rico.  I love companies that do things like this.  Carrying about our planet and being a part of the solution is very admirable.  Best Buy recycles 387 lbs of electronics each minute their stores are open.  That just blows my mind.

According to dosomething.org “the average person generates over 4 pounds of trash every day and about 1.5 tons of solid waste per year.”  That is a lot of waste and it is nice to know that Best Buy gives people the option of bringing their electronic waste to the store for disposal.  I admit, up until now I didn’t know they had such a program and our old computers always just went out in the trash.  I feel really guilty about that now.

Think about it.

The EPA (according to Electronics Take Back Coalition) estimates that 29.9 million desktops and 1 2 million laptops were discarded in 2007.  That’s over 112,000 computers discarded per day and I’m sure many of those end up in our local landfills.  Best Buy collected 80 million pounds of electronics last year in their program.  Can you imagine what that does to planet?  It’s pretty scary.
