Help: Mom Support Group Plea

This is my first Mamavation post since our campaign ended over 8 weeks ago I think.  Ashamed of me?  You should be, but I have a confession to make.  When it is all over, when you are no longer in the spotlight, when you don’t have the same amount of accountability, it is easy to hide.  I think my idea of supporting a Post-Mamavation Mom support group was a great idea – a much needed resource for a lot of us graduates.  Soon @MentallyInked and @Rachel_L will be joining us @FrugalFemina @AlyssaBechthold and me, @lisasamples and I have tasked myself with making sure they don’t fall victim of the “childhood star syndrome”.

That’s where you all come in!  Yes, you!  You stood by my side for 3 months straight as I went through this journey and now I’m asking for your help again.  Leah (@bookieboo) has blessed this project, but I cannot do it alone.  I need ideas.  What should we call ourselves?  What should our format be?  We will post on Mamavation – that’s a given.  What do you want us to write about?  What questions do you have for us?  What will make you interested in what we have to say?

Leah gave us the tools, but some of us forgot how to use them.  I’m one of those people.  I got lazy.  I lost my motivation.  I slipped away from the Sistahood.  I failed you and I failed myself.  I am going to make it right.

My baby-steps for this week:

  • I will drink 64 oz of water every day.
  • I will get back on my treadmill for at least 30 minutes 3 times this week.

P.S.  Please do not leave me comments telling me it is okay that I have been making excuses.  It isn’t okay and I trust that you will leave me raw and honest remarks. Jimmy Jazz Coupons is a great place to find coupons to Jimmy Jazz.

  1. Honestly I kind of wondered if people took the schwag and ran. I love the idea of a post-graduate accountability group. It seems like it would be hard because there is no way you can measure up to the success you had in the campaign… almost like Biggest Loser folks leaving the ranch then having to go back to real life.

I think the world of working towards health goals is a series of oscillations no matter what you do… you just want your overall trends going in the direction you want. So I won’t blow smoke up your ass and say you are excused, but at least this dip in your trendline is only 8 weeks and not 8 months. Your baby steps sound like a great way to get back in the groove. I look forward to seeing your post next week saying you met this week’s goals.

XOXO, you know I have nothing but love for ya Lisa!

  5. I am right there with ya babe! 😉

  6. You know…. I’m not going to condone excuses, but I can totally see how life and laziness can get in the way when you’re no longer in the limelight. You feel like that motivation and support has completely moved to a whole different set of people, and you feel as if you don’t have to be accountable for the things you’re doing now.

The truth of the matter is, even though I wasn’t around when you were a mamavation mom, many of those who looked up to you, were inspired by you, and supported you then… STILL wanted to look up to you, be inspired by you, and support you even after you’re not in the spotlight anymore.

They are the same women who were never in the spotlight, and have a hard time thinking THEY can do it if the wons who were given all the tools just up and quit when they’re no longer front and center!

I think it’s a FANTABULOUS idea to do a post Mom thing! That’s totally awesome, and a way for US to keep track of how you’ve actually taken what you’ve learned and seriously changed your life with it! It’s really easy to be a Monday Mamavation Mom, Sista, Member.. etc. The REAL success is when.. 10 years from now, you’re still motivating people to strive to reach your level of accomplishments!

I hope you have a great week!

  7. I wondered why there wasn’t like a monthly check in or bi-weekly check in for pat moms. I can see how you fall off without such a high level of accountability anymore!

    Now to be tough:

    GET UP AND GET MOVING!
    CHUG WATER
KEEP A DAILY FOOD/EXERCISE LOG AND POST IT HERE

ok that was me yelling 🙂

I will be so happy to see you back in the groove. Even if you only do 15 minutes on the treadmill every day and work your way up I know you can do it.

  9. I can see how it would be hard to go from “forced” involvement to your own thing. You can get back on that wagon. We know you can because you were already on it once before … now get to it!

  10. BIG HUGS Lisa! Sad that life gets in the way and we throw ourselves on the backburner…but its time we concentrate on us…the moms that we are and do this! You can do this and we will help support you!

  11. I’m glad you posted this. I got Rachel & Kim to agree to post a Mamavation Monday post every week for at least 6 months and include a picture scale…you know the one you used to send me every week. I think that should be part of it. There’s no other way to keep you guys accountable unless the community is there to see what you are doing.

  12. You know I won’t tell you it’s ok, cuz I’m a believer in tough love & need it myself. You did just disappear & I know you had to catch up w/life & your blog & work, but now you’ve had your time off & need to get your ass in gear. You don’t want to let go of all the wonderful progress you made!I’ve needed you & will need you more in the coming weeks. Don’t make me come over there!Work on accomplishing your goals & i’ll work on mine & along w/the other ladies we’ll continue to succeed! Love you! *hugs*

  13. What a great idea! It is so easy to “fall off the wagon.” I think this is great that you are wanting some accountability. There should be a post Mamavation contract or something… that is a good idea.

  14. Hey you – it’s tough, it’s like when I train hard for a marathon – I give it my all then poof – it’s over! And then you find that you burnt yourself out. You could try joining my Choose You Healthy Challenge for some extra motivation… hint hint. Good luck with everything – it’s hard to get back into it.
