PG Breast Cancer: Early Detection Saves Lives
The other night you might have seen a group of us tweeting about early detection on Twitter using the hashtag #PGBestDefense. It never ceases to amaze me what happens when a group of women (and some men too) get together and talk about breast cancer. The stories are touching, sad, and at the same time joyous. The stories are very real. The stories unite us. I learned that one in eight women will be touched with breast cancer. I know eight women off the top of my head and to think that one of them will be diagnosed with breast cancer (statistically) breaks my heart. We shared stories during the Twitter party about our own battles and battles of our loved ones. My mother is a survivor. My friends mother wasn’t so lucky.
In 2013 about 39,620 women will die from breast cancer*.
Did you know that early detection can help you beat those odds? P&G has partnered with The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) this year to educate both men and women about the importance of early detection. Not only will they be encouraging annual screenings but they will be making a $500,000 donation to The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to help ensure that lives are saved through screenings, early detection plans, and education.
The P&G Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is well on it’s way but it isn’t too late to get involved by spreading the word about early detection and annual screenings. While breast cancer rates are lower among non-Caucasian women, death rates are higher among African American & Latina women but there is no reason we can’t all make a difference and get involved. If you haven’t already be sure to get your annual mammogram and be consistent with self examination.

It’s important to me because it happens in 1/8 women, that’s scary. Early detection gives you a much higher chance of survival.

Breast Cancer awareness is important to me because I lost my Grandmother due to the lack of early detection. Had she done self exam, or had a mammogram earlier I might still have her. She passed away when I was an early teen, and I still miss her terribly.

Cancer runs in my family. I always to be really careful. I did find a lump, but the doctors are pretty much ignoring it.
Breast Cancer awareness is so important to me because my sister got breast cancer at the age of 34! There is no history of Breast Cancer in our family. so it came as a total shock to me and the rest of the family. My sister went through treatment and I can say today that she is cancer free. This has caused me to make sure that I get my yearly mammogram!! Mammograms save lives and it helped save my sister’s life! Get your yearly mammogram!!

I have lost WAY TOO MANY friends to this horrible disease and I’m only in my 50’s. Two of these were men, and I think people forget that they also can get breast cancer.
It’s important to me because it affects so many people – my best friend’s mom is a survivor. It definitely makes a difference with early detection through screenings!
