Our Story: Wedding, Honeymoon, Vow Renewal

vow2

We renewed our vows.

In December 2002 when James and I got married we didn’t do the big wedding with a honeymoon in Fiji.  We decided to slip away to the mountains in Alabama and have a small courthouse ceremony with our closest friends and family.  We had been engaged for 2 years and I just never would set a date so I decided to surprise him. What I didn’t realize when I planned out this surprise wedding was that the place I choose was a rundown, dirty courthouse in the middle of nowhere.

On our big day we all gathered in our vehicles and headed out for our nuptials. Unfortunately the place was much farther than we had originally thought and while driving there our caravan got separated. A couple hours later when we got there we found out the judge that was going to marry us wasn’t even in town and the court reporter was going to have to do the ceremony.  So we waited for the rest of the group.

And we waited.

And we waited. And while we waited James’ started getting hungry. If you know James you know he HAS to eat when he is hungry or he gets hangry. As our luck had it there was nowhere to eat and we had to rely on a gas station hotdog. Finally, the lady who was going to do the ceremony had to leave so we ended up doing our nuptials without half our family.

The honeymoon begins. As I mentioned we did not do the Fiji honeymoon although it was for the lack of researching and finding most of the Fiji travel information here. No, our Fiji was a state park in Alabama in a cabin in the woods for the night.  It was the best part of the day, but I always knew we would do it right one day.

Friday, February 13th was the day we had our marriage blessed in the church. Twelve years later we are still going strong. This ceremony was even smaller than the first one with only my sister in attendance, but it was still meaningful. Our honeymoon this time didn’t take place in Fiji either, as we just went home and cuddled to watch a movie.

With all that said our marriage will probably last a lifetime. It’s not perfect, but we sure can overcome obstacles together.

What’s the story behind your wedding?
