Orlandonites: Survey Says Travel is Calling You

Would you be willing to drop everything for an all-expenses paid weekend getaway?

According to a new spontaneity survey by Hilton HHonors, the loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide’s 10 distinct hotel brands, 82 percent of Orlandonites would, compared to 80 percent nationally.

So what else makes Orlandonites spontaneous, and what holds them back?

  • 22 percent of Orlando residents would be willing to drastically cut/dye their hair as opposed to only 14 percent who would be willing to get a tattoo
  • More than 38 percent of Orlando locals would go on a drive with no final destination in mind on a whim
  • 33 percent of Orlando residents feel they could not take a free vacation because of work obligations

Around the Country:

  • Travel is Calling: 50 percent of Americans are likely to go on an impromptu weekend vacation, with the percentage jumping to 80 percent if the trip is free
  • Think before you Ink: Getting a tattoo is the least spontaneous activity chosen on a whim at 13 percent
  • Fearing for Fido: Leaving pets is the third top limiting factor for taking a free vacation at 23 percent, behind work and previous commitments. Pet owners in Ft. Lauderdale (31 percent), Los Angeles (33 percent) and Puerto Rico (29 percent) have the hardest time

To further test America’s spontaneity, Hilton HHonors, in partnership with AT&T, has launched the “Travel is Calling You” online challenge, offering ten Great Weekend Getaways. Each Thursday through August 22, HHonors and AT&T will call two lucky winners between 6 pm and 9 pm E.T. who must answer the call of travel at that time in order to win.  Now I just need to find that dang phone!
