Living with IBS

Digestive issues are no fun at all. I have lived with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) for years and know how challenging it is to carry out the simplest of activities when you are suffering from intestinal problems. IBS is a painful, terrifying, and rather embarrassing condition I have struggled to cope with for a long time. My problems started around the time I turned 20 and at first, I thought it was just due to stress. I had repeated issues with constipation and diarrhea that made it difficult for me to enjoy myself with friends for extended periods of time. Shortly thereafter I found that controlling my stress helped a lot, but what worked best for me was “training” myself to be more regular. Unfortunately, up until now I haven’t been able to gain a level of control I’m comfortable with.

According to a Harris Poll* conducted on behalf of VSL#3, the following was found amongst 607 U.S. adults ages 18+ who have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis (UC) or ileal pouch, Nearly half of IBS, UC, ileal pouch sufferers (46%) believe all probiotics are pretty much the same, so it comes as no surprise when I find others like myself who suffer from IBS or UC.

In conjunction with dietary and lifestyle changes, taking a VSL#3 is optimal for my digestion. VSL#3 is a serious probiotic medical food. For more than 15 years, healthcare professionals have trusted VSL#3 for the dietary management of their patients who suffer from the serious digestive issues IBS, ulcerative colitis and ileal pouch.VSL#3 products include packets containing 450 billion bacteria and capsules containing 112.5 billion bacteria, which are available at your local pharmacy without a prescription. Due to the potency of this formulation, VSL#3 DS is a prescription only medical food. VSL#3 is very powerful and not to be confused with an over the counter dietary supplement as it is 10 times more potent than the average probiotic and should be used under medical supervision. While you don’t need a prescription and can pick it up at your local pharmacy or online you should still let your healthcare professional know you are taking VSL#3.
