Growing up I think “it’s the thought that counts” was my mom’s mantra. Like the year I asked for a telephone for my room, a typewriter, and a car for Christmas only to find three pencil sharpeners in the bottom of my stocking: a car, typewriter, and telephone. I was mad and she said, “It’s the thought that counts”. Seriously, that’s a true story, but I don’t think that’s exactly what she meant. I think she really instilled in me that I need to be thankful for what I have and what is given to me and not compare what I have to what my friends have. I try to teach my children this same thing. Sometimes it is the smallest things that matter most.
The best example of how important the small things are…
My birthday was December 2nd and I wasn’t feeling really good. I don’t know if it was allergies or not but my nose was running and I kept sneezing so I laid down on the couch for a short nap. When I woke up there was a hot cup of tea and a Kleenex Brand Care Pack sitting next to me.
