Havertys Home Fashion Workshops

Did you know that nearly every other month Havertys offers a FREE Home Fashion Workshop?  I didn’t know it until this past month when I decided to go check it out as part of a campaign for The Blog Frog.  I was somewhat skeptical at first because the last time I went into a furniture store I was bombarded with high pressure sales people walking around me like a vulture.  My personal preference when looking to purchase new furniture is to be greeted after a minute of walking around and then being left alone until I have a question.  It was a pleasant surprise walking into the Orlando Havertys located on Orange Blossom Trail because I got to walk in the door and look around for a minute or two and then a salesperson approached me with a smile and said hello.  No high pressure sales, no million questions, just a friendly hello and let us know if you need help with anything or have a question.

I didn’t let anyone know I was a blogger when I first arrived.  I wanted to get a feel for the store without everyone bending over backwards.  There was a small group of customers already gathering for the February Home Fashion Workshop at the back of the store.  Some were new home buyers, others were just needing help with decorating their home, and others were “regulars” who attend every workshop.  It was very casual and welcoming.

Home Fashion Workshops Tips

If you are anything like me I’m always looking for ideas for decorating my home and the workshop was perfect for me.  Not only did I learn a lot about accent pieces and using different materials together, but I learned some tips on how to tie it all together.

Tip: Do you know the correct placement of an accent rug?  I should highlight your furnishings not carpet your floor.  Let your furnishing rest on a small portion of the rug, not completely on the rug.

Tip: Using accent pieces for things other than what they are “intended for” can be a fun way to mix it up.  This beautiful Thistledown Accent Chest would be a great piece to feature as a bedside table in a shabby chic bedroom or a focus point just inside the front door in the foyer.

Mixing fabric and leather is another great tip for decorating a living room.  Don’t be afraid to mix wood finishes too.  Just because your chair has cherry wood legs doesn’t mean you can have any other type of wood in the same room.  If you still aren’t sure remember to check your local Havertys for help.  Our local Havertys has an interior designer on staff that will come out to your home to help you with ideas.  The designer will do a board (similar to the one above) and do a nice presentation for you with all the thing tailored for your home and personal preferences.  This is just another FREE service offered by Havertys that makes them the “go to” choice for my home decor questions.  You can also find a lot of design tools on their site, so be sure to check that out too.

My Favorite Accent Pieces & Upcoming Workshops

When I was in the store last month there were a few things that totally caught my eye.  I loved the nesting baskets so much I had to purchase one for our chicken coop (it’s decorative and functional).  I also loved the man cave pool ball  candle holders.  It’s difficult finding nice things to decorate the man cave with sometimes and these were perfect.
