Dear Cancer,

You are not going to win you battle with anyone I know.  You have taken one extraordinary woman from my life, but she is your last victim.  You lost your fight against my mother when you invaded her breasts, but she kicked your @$$!  Not only did she have you removed she went for treatment after treatment to ensure that you were eradicated from her body.  You lost.  She won. It’s been over six years now and she lives on without your nasty little poison that robs women of courage, confidence, and hope.

Take heed, there is a non-medical, brand-neutral and free public service program out there today called Look Good Feel Better.(LGFB)  They were not around when you stole my grandmother from me, but she still left this Earth with grace and dignity.  You may have taken her life, but you could never steal her self-image and her beauty. Look Good Feel Better helps women living with cancer manage the appearance side effects of treatment, thus improving their self-esteem.

Here are some other facts about Look Good Feel Better:

  • Look Good Feel Better group programs are open to all women with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or other forms of treatment. In the United States alone, more than 900,000 women have participated in the program, which now offers 15,800 group workshops nationwide in 2,400 locations.
  • The program – developed by the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) Foundation, and delivered through a collaboration among the PCPC Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Professional Beauty Association – offers free workshops and other resources that teach beauty and styling techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance side effects of treatment to help change the lives of people with cancer by helping the whole person, inside and out.

#ReimagineBeauty: Virtual Makeover Tool

As part of their 25th Anniverty Theme, Reimagine Beauty, LGFB is encouraging all women – in a small way – to virtually experience Look Good Feel Better and to “reimagine beauty”.  In hopes of spreading the power it can have to restore confidence and courage to women undergoing cancer treatments they put together a Virtual Makeover Tool. By using the tool and sharing  your “after” photo with the hashtag #ReimagineBeauty on Facebook and/or Twitter you are automatically entered for a chance to win a trip to the National Women’s Survivors Convention to participate in their 25th anniversary party!  There is more information on the site along with official rules.
