You Can #DriveSafe with Sprint M2M – Ask Your Insurance Agent

Usage Based Insurance is a new concept for companies in the United States. In 2012 Sprint M2M  launched a suite of products for US insurance companies. Among them is a cellcontrol device that you plug in to the OBD 2 connector inside your vehicles drivers side compartment. After getting the opportunity to review this device I definitely think this device is a step in the right direction in decreasing the staggering amount of driving related fatalities in US teenagers. For those of you that don’t know car accidents are the leading cause of death in the U.S. teenagers. It is time we started doing something about it!

Installation of the device was easy and took me all of 2 seconds to plug in. In my opinion the hardest part of the whole process for people out there that are not very savvy in the mechanical realm will be finding where to plug it in. The location of the connector for your vehicles on on-board computer varies slightly between manufacturers. Luckily you can always just run in to your local Pep Boys or gas station and they will be more than happy to show you where it is!

I was thoroughly impressed with this technology. When the device activated and phone numbers are synced teenagers will be unable to receive or send texts or calls when operating the vehicle. Teenagers might not like it but we have a responsibility to protect them. Believe it or not 18% of all driving accidents are due to distracted driving. Restricting phone usage when operating a motor vehicle should reduce such accidents significantly. Studies in the UK showed a 20% decrease in teenage driver accident rates.

A simple to use OBD2 device on the Sprint network can have a significant impact in public safety.

All you have to do is ask your insurance agent for one.
