The Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and Amway have teamed up to help educate Club members about the importance of healthy diets and lifestyles. This year is our families first year planting a garden. I’ve gotten a little carried away taking photographs of every single thing that has been harvested. I can’t help it though. It’s important for me to show my children that eating fresh, healthy herbs and veggies just make the food so much better when you put your time into growing it yourself.
The BGCA and Amway have implemented a few programs that help teach families the importance of eating healthy and community gardening. Through the POSITIVE SPROUTS® Sustainability Grants Amway is providing $30,000 in Sustainability Grants to ten deserving Boys & Girls Clubs who previously received community gardens from Amway. The monies should help the community with maintaining their gardens and inform them about nutrition and other related gardening ideas.The Garden In A Box Kits is another thing Amway is doing for BGCA. They are donating 150 Garden In A Box kits to Boys & Girls Clubs who demonstrated an interest and need for establishing a community gardening program at their Club. The kit includes a variety of fruit and vegetable seeds and supplies Clubs need to get started.Finally, the POSITIVE SPROUTS® Curriculum Amway was set up by Amway to help 4,000 BGCAs nationwide have access to educational materials through a curriculum focused on healthy food.

Gardening Tips for Children
- Getting dirty is half the fun! Remember that getting dirty is part of the fun when planting, weeding, and harvesting.
- Bugs are our friends! This is a great time to teach your children about the benefits of worms and ladybugs and how they help the garden.
- Watch your garden grow before your eyes! Try planting some radishes, they are usually ready in no time at all (less than a week). Kids like instant gratification.
