Father’s Day: The Calling Wine

My dad is a wine drinker. I know there are a lot of dad’s out there who truly enjoy a good glass of wine, even the most sports minded men. The Calling is a collaboration between sports commentator Jim Nantz and wine industry entrepreneur Peter Deutsch and it makes the most perfect Father’s Day gift when paired with Jim Nantz’s book, Always By My Side. Since my dad doesn’t live near me each year I’m forced to spend the day with him through a 10 minute phone call and a card. It sucks, but one day I plan on surprising him by showing up at his door, with a bottle of The Calling Pinot Noir in my hand. I’m sure to win Best Daughter of the Year when it happens, but until then my job is to make sure my hubby has the most wonderful Father’s Day ever!
Our plans?
For the past 10 years we never really did anything special for Father’s Day. Each year we ask James what he wants to do and he is always content with being together as a family. The only problem with that is as the next Father’s Day approaches and someone asks him what he did last year he always says, “nothing”. I know he means it in a good way, but I’m always fearful that most people think I’m a slacker. This year I want him to remember that on Father’s Day he had the most incredible day ever! Since this is going to take place this weekend I can’t share the details with you now, but I promise this is going to be LEGEN….wait for it….DARY!
The Calling: A Tribute to their Father’s
If you are like me and want to learn more about how this collaboration between Jim Nantz and Peter Deutsch came to be this is a story you don’t want to miss. Long story short, Jim Nantz wrote a book about his dad called Always By My Side and Peter Deutsch loved it. They happened to be at the same restaurant once and met. It so happened that Jim was meeting with some folks to discuss his long time dream of taking the next step and producing a wine his father would be proud of. It so happened that Peter happened to be in the wine business and a friendship and business adventure were born. The wine they produced, The Calling, reflects both of their love for their fathers, from the label to the grapes sourced from Dutton Ranch Vineyard.
This Pinot Noir’s classic flavors of fresh cherries, mushrooms, and spice are framed by rich acidity, delicate texture and powdery tannins. A classic cool-climate Pinot Noir from select Dutton Ranch vineyards in the prestigious Russian River Valley appellation.
There isn’t a better wine to share with that special dad in your life.
