Confession: I do not go to the doctor, even though I should.
Truth of the matter, it’s really a bad idea since I have both high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I’m not in the best of health, but I hate sitting in the doctor’s office. I especially hate dragging the kids out of the house when they have the sniffles or a weird rash I can’t figure out, so when I heard of this telemedicine thing it really caught my attention. How wonderful would it be to pick up your phone, pull up an app, and see the doctor right away for your child’s cold or hives you have been getting?
Well, I did just that. I decided to download Amwell and give it a try. I’ve been breaking out in hives and I think it’s related to stress so I figured this is a great reason to visit the doctor without having to leave the house. Here is the process of setting up your first appointment.
1. Download the Amwell App for iOS or Android.
2. Once you have the app there are some easy questions to fill out and you get to find a provider. Each provider has a little bio you can read so you find the one that is a good fit for you.
3. You fill in your pharmacy infor and a few other details once you begin.
4. If you want to try it yourself you can use the code MOMSQUAD for a limited time and get a FREE doctor’s visit!
5. Next you connect and go to the waiting room while the doctor reviews your notes.
6. After about 45 seconds I was let in and we met via video on my phone. I talked about my medical concerns, gave her information about my medical history, and she was able to prescribe me both my high blood pressure medication refill AND something for my hives.
7. When the visit was over I got a transcript sent via email and a quick trip to the pharmacy and my prescription was waiting for me!
Pretty easy, right? Over the weekend I checked the app several times to see if there were doctors available and even at 2am on Sunday there were. I also found Nutritionists and you can search for various specialists as well. I didn’t use those functions, but I can say I was happy with the family doctor I met with and will be using this service again.
