Retinol has been an absolute godsend to me. Several years back, I was heavily into using scented moisturizers and cologne on my skin — yes, I was a guy that liked to look and smell good (still am, but take a lot more care). Unfortunately, I discovered about 2 years later that I have very sensitive skin which absorbs the stuff very quickly.
At the time, I couldn’t figure out why I was getting acne — the last suspicion on my mind was that aftershave, moisturizers, colognes… all typically have nasty ingredients like galxolides and silicone which can mess with your hormones. It was nothing major for about a year… and then I started getting very “boil” looking pimples underneath my skin which were impossible to squeeze. Anyway, this continued to get worse, until I was forced to get on antibiotics, and when that failed, accutane.
Retinol type products were the only thing that responded to my awful acne at the time — and not to mention, I don’t look a day over 20, and I’m 25 now.
I highly recommend any Vitamin A/Retinol type products for people with severe or very irritiating acne issues!
