This recipe was passed down by my grandmother, Helen Anderson. It can be made with either pork chops, pork ribs, or country style ribs. They come out juicy and tender with a lot of flavor and are sure to be a hit at the table.
Ingredients
  • 1 lb. pork chops (or ribs)
  • 1/4 c. catsup
  • 1/6 c. vinegar
  • 1/4 t. nutmeg
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 t. celery seed
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 bay leaf
Instructions
  1. Brown pork quickly and evenly on all sides in a hot skillet.
  2. Move into a flat baking dish and pour remaining ingredients, mixed, over the top.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees until tender and brown, usually 1 hour.

  1. Yum! These sound absolutely delicious!

  2. YUMMMMM I’ll be making this

They are the next thing I will be serving for dinner. So nice to see something that did not come out of a bottle.

  4. I’ve never been a huge fan of pork but that looks really good and moist. Any time I make pork it’s a rubber dog toy.

  5. I haven’t made port chops in ages. The last time I made them, they were dry and tough. I am not good at cooking pork. The nutmeg sounds really nice in the recipe.

As a FoodHistorian, I am extremely intrigued: I have to ask- what type of Ketchup did your grandmother use?
