What Kind of Mommy Blogger Are You? Trailer-Trash? Hoity-Toity? A-List? Z-List?

I had an interesting conversation with another “mommy blogger” today and we got on the topic of  “what kind” of mom’s we were.  She was telling me that although she doesn’t live in a trailer park that other mom’s might view her as “the trailer trash of mommy blogging” and that they would deem her as  less influential and less interesting.  She did not think she fit in with the other “uppity” bloggers and felt she was more “country”.  Do we really think of ourselves in terms of wealth in the blogging world?  I’m certainly not uppity or rich, nor am I trash or “country”.  The conversation got me thinking…what do other bloggers think of me and why are we thinking of each other in terms of money?

I have a confession.  I have gone to the grocery store in my pajamas – complete with slippers.  I have gone an entire day without a shower.  I have left my house with NO BRA on before and without make-up.    What does any of that have to do with what kind of mother I am?  What does it have to do with anything at all?  Does it mean I’m not as smart as the blogger who always includes pictures in her posts of her children in their most fashionable outfits when my children’s photos are in jeans and dirty faces?  Am I less of a blogger because my bio picture is a cropped candid and not a professional glamor shot with every hair in place and professional make up?  Is what I have to say as a mommy blogger or writer less interesting because I do not spin my home life as a picture perfect scenario?

I am not a step-ford blogger.  I don’t have a perfect family.  I don’t have a perfect house.  I don’t have the perfect bio, blog, or anything for that matter BUT…  I love my husband.  I love my kids.  I love my family.  I love my friends.  I love my blog and my readers.  I love being me and not worrying what other bloggers think of me…

I might not get the best opportunities  or the invites to the biggest trips – but what I do get I’m thankful for and deserving of – not because of who I PORTRAY myself as online, but for who I am – always.

  1. The reason your blog is great is because you put the real you out there. I love it! Don’t change 🙂

  2. And that is why I love ya! You are real. And awesome. I have no idea how people view me as a blogger or a Mom. Maybe I don’t want to know! LOL I know who I am and that is all that is important!

  3. what a perfect post…. i am have those same conversations with myself not just about blogging but life in general.
Sometimes it seems there are cliques in blogging just like in High School.

I too have gone without a shower and a bra… don’t live a nice house (hell it’s not even “my” house)
What you see is what you get, like it or not!!

PS .. I think your pretty awesome pj’s, slippers and ALL..
    xoxo

Although I love you alot I have to say that my greatest pet peeve in life is seeing people out in public in pajamas…I have seen them in Target, shopping in the mall and it never ceases to annoy me. Fuzzy pjs and slippers no sweat pants and flip flops or crocs are OK.

  5. That’s what makes you a great blogger–being real and being honest! I go out in pajamas, without a shower, with spit up on my clothes… all the time, too, haha. People worry way too much what others will think of them and compare themselves to others all too often! It’s great that you’re content and happy!!

  6. Well said. I think that as moms we so often find ourselves comparing ourselves to some “image” or persona, or who we think we should be etc. It is invitable then, that for some it would transfer into their blog.

As a mom, I’ve always been me. Imperfect, but the best I can be…a mom who has better days and horrible days…just like everyone else. Its funny because I’ve never been one to compare myself to other moms I don’t compare my blog either…

You may like to read these posts of mine…they’re on the topic **winks**

  7. Many days I do not get a shower until late afternoon. And I’ve left the house looking like that to take kids to school. The younger kids I walk into preschool. Oh my! Spray on some body spray and you should be fine.

More times than I would like to admit, I’ve gone to the grocery store in my pj’s without a bra, wearing my hoodie and hoping like hell no one can tell my ‘headlights are on’. But dang it we are out of milk and who needs to dress up for that?

I’ve walked through the grocery store with a booger smeared on my neck, compliments of my toddler, and wondered why the woman at the check out stand would not make eye contact with me.

Honey, we are all just trying to survive this mommyhood path and live to blog about it. 🙂

  8. I think the mailman and the UPS man know all the pajamas I have but never leave the house with them. I think we each have our own niche which is ourselves and our personal take on basic things. It’s when you try to be something you are not you lose the authenticity that ‘mom’ bloggers are looked to to provide.
