Travel: Exploring and Eating in Hobart

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to go to Australia.  It’s been on my bucket list since I was young.  I want to go snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef and explore all that Australia has to offer.  The photos I’ve seen are gorgeous and the places I’ve read about to eat sound amazing.  Recently I have been reading about a place called Hobart.  It’s the capital city of the state known as Tasmania.  If you are looking to discover Hobart here are some suggestions of things not to miss.

  • Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery  boasts one of the best coin collections in any museum and it also houses stuffed versions of unique Tasmanian animals including Tasmanian Devils and the extinct Tasmanian Tiger.
  • Maritime Museum of Tasmania
  • Salamanca has many small art galleries located around the Square.
  • MONA Museum of Old and New Art was built by David Walsh of Moorilla fame.

Food

Wineries

  • Charles Reuben Estate
  • Coal Valley Vineyard
  • Moorilla
  • Meadowbank Estate

  • Fountainside Hotel
  • St Ives Motel Apartments

  • Somerset on the Pier Hobart

Australia’s first legal casino was built in Hobart so be sure to check out Wrest Point Casino if you are a gambler.  You can discover Australia’s oldest brewery and take a tour of Cascade Brewery.  It’s also reported that taking the Peppermint Bay Cruise is a must if you have half a day to spare.  Regardless of what types of things you like to do there are lots of things to choose from in Hobart.

DisclosureMuch of the information here was acquired from Wikitravel and internet research, but one day I would love to share my actual travel to Hobart and other cities in Australia.

What locations are on your bucket list?

  1. Mary Ambrosino says

This sounds like a wonderful place to vacation.

  2. Hi Lisa. The casino sounds great, and so does the brewery. Probably best not to combine the two though!

  3. I think that one of my 2nd cousins is actually living in Tasmania at the moment! He’s an artist of some kind!
