Top 5 Decorating Ideas For Your Kids’ Bedroom

wall stickers

If your child is anything like mine you are going to be redecorating their bedroom over and over again over the course of time they live at home. When they are very young we tend to be the designers but as they age they develop their own sense of style and have their own ideas of what they want. In my opinion it’s best to stick to simple decorations in a kids room that can be changed out with ease over time or things that grow with your child.  I put together a simple list of my top 5 decorating tips for a child’s room and some info on how to get some of the products for free, enjoy!

  1. Incorporate things that make staying organized easy such as closet storage, storage benches, and tubs. It’s so much more fun if the kids can throw all their Legos into one bin or find all their shoes in on rack. Shelving is another great option or do what we did with small DVD shelves lining the walls.
  2. Be creative in your use of paint. When children are young they LOVE coloring and nothing beats coloring on the walls. Do a section of the wall using chalkboard paint in the color of your choice. Simply paint up to a chair rail and they have an automatic canvas. Or maybe try your hand at glow in the dark paint. Doing a space theme?  You can paint the stars and moon on your child’s ceiling and when you turn off the lights they will be in awe.

3.  Wall Art is super popular and so easy to change out as you change themes. Wall stickers are also becoming increasingly affordable and in some cases you can even get them for free from companies like Room to Grow. They have lots of different themes to choose from and you just download the template to your computer and either print them out on your personal printer to the scale you want or bring to your local company to do it for you. I personally love their dragon and knight theme, it’s adorable!

4. Hanging the art. Visit your local office supply store or even art and craft store to find the peel and stick cork boards to put on the wall. Kids loving displaying their art work and what better way to decorate than by your own personal Picasso. You can also post photos and share greeting cards for each holiday so that the kids can look at them often and show off to their friends.

5. Finally, try personalizing your child’s bed!  What child wouldn’t want a personalized bed? I love the beautifully crafted painted wood beds with a name plaque to the head or foot end that I found at Room to Grow.  You have to check out the one with the soccer jersey, it’s my favorite!

Personalizing and decorating your child’s room doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive with these quick 5 touches. It’s especially easy with companies like Room to Grow who offer some tips and tricks on their blog as well. Be sure to check them out and leave us a comment sharing your best decorating tips.
