Let’s Time Travel with Ikea
Have you ever given thought to your future? What would your children be like? Where would you live? What would your house look like? The idea of dreaming about your future is more like time travel if you think about it. I’m a time traveler of sorts. Ever since I was a little girl I would dream about what my future would be like. I had fantasies about Prince Charming and living in a castle mansion. It is fun to imagine what your future will be like and for each key event in time it changes how we live and just like the video, it’s nice to know IKEA is there for us.

I love how the home furnishing brand IKEA portrayed this idea in their new video. The brand orchestrated an experiment with Justin Tranz, a famous hypnotist, along with actors in an actual IKEA store. Through guided hypnosis he brought a young couple through their life giving them a glimpse into their imaginary daughter’s life. In the store they set up a scene featuring the little girls 6th birthday in her cute pink bedroom furnished with adorable IKEA furnishing and decor for a birthday surprised. In the next bout of time travel they break to her as a teen sitting at her desk in the office section of IKEA where she reveals to her parents she is going to run away with George, her yoga instructor. The final leg of the journey reveals to the young couple that their daughter moved her boyfriend in and in the IKEA bathroom George strolls in nakie (blurred out) to grab a shower to the parent’s dismay.
My Time Travel
I’m a dreamer so I don’t anticipate as much discord in my future as those in The Time Travel Experiment with IKEA. Here is my story:
I see my oldest son married and moving into his first home with is new wife. I picture our first Thanksgiving at his new house with a STORNÄS table where we are all enjoying our first meal together as a family. Unlike the IKEA video, there is no strife and of course I love my new daughter-in-law.
Sleep
It’s 5 years later and I am sitting on my son’s BACKABRO/ MATTARP couch when he walks through the door with my new grandbaby. They just got out of the hospital today and we are all gathered to welcome her home. As we oh and ah over her adorable little self I glance over my shoulder to her new bedroom adorned in the STUVA crib with pink drawers that I bought for her arrival. Her room adorned in all the matching decor from IKEA.
Sleep
Finally, it’s 10 years later and all the grandkids are running around the house being chased by grampa on Christmas morning. I’m in the gourmet kitchen with gorgeous AKURUM cabinets preparing breakfast for everyone. Both my son’s and their wives are putting the DINERA plates out on the table preparing for my famous Bacon Quiche. You can hear the Christmas music playing in the background and you can smell the pine from the tree mixing with the fresh brewed BRYGGKAFFE MÖRKROST coffee.
I don’t want to wake up.

IKEA was there to furnish my son’s first home, and my first real office. In 5 years I see the two of us sharing an office outside of the house with sleek Galant desks and ERIK file cabinets…helping to keep an organized duo at their best.
