Savings Tips for the New Year #win $50 Bank of America Gift Card (GIVEAWAY)

I have had an online only bank for the past 5  years.  It was a pain in the butt.  Every time I had to make a deposit I had to mail my check out of state.  Depositing cash just wasn’t an option.  About two months ago I decided to open an account at Bank of America – and I’m glad I did.  Being a busy mom, FT employee, blogger, and Chief of Everything my time is very valuable.  I don’t want to worry about getting to the bank before it closes or having to boot up a computer to check my balance when I’m out and about.  With Bank of America I don’t have to worry.  Not only do they have mobile and text banking, but they also offer the coolest ATM options I have ever seen.  No need to worry about having an envelope or pen, their machines take checks and cash without it and even provide you images of your deposits.  I LOVE IT!

Another great feature is their Keep The Change program.  Every time I use my card Bank of America takes the change and moves it into an account where they match my deposit.  I’ve saved $9.23 this month and never missed a dime.  I can’t remember the last time I ever SAVED money.  Here is how it works:

Keep the Change® Works Like This:

Enroll in our free Keep the Change® program, and with every purchase you make with your Bank of America debit cardFootnote2, we’ll:

  • Round up your purchase to the nearest dollar amount
  • Transfer the difference from your checking account to your savings account

We’ll even match your savings.Footnote2

For the first 3 months, we’ll match your Keep the Change® savings to the penny:

  • When the 3 months are over, we’ll continue matching 5% a year, every year – to make it even easier to save
  • You could earn a total match of up to $250 per year. This Bank of America Keep the Change® program reward will be paid annually to your savings account
  • Bank of America has a great site for Personal Finance Tips that has tons of valuable information on how to start your New Year right – in the black!  I especially like the article “10 Great Ways to Get Back Money, Time, and Peace of Mind” – have you ever heard of a kid swap?  I need to try that.  If saving money is important to you check out the saving solutions at Bank of America.  With the New Year around the corner it is time to make your 2011 New Years Financial Resolutions.

    Here are mine:

    1. Limit take out to twice a month.
    2. Monitor the thermostat in the house.
    3. Create a REALISTIC budget and stick to it.
    4. Pay off at least one bad debt (this is going to be a tough one since I have no disposable income).
    5. Do my best at finding the cheap package holiday deals when booking my vacation.

    7. How do I get back time? I don’t know if this what you consider “getting back time”, but I do a lot of my local shopping by calling the stores ahead of time. I ask if they have the item I want, if they do, I ask them to put it at the Front Desk with my name. I have only had ONE instance when the item wasn’t there when I went to get it. This sure saves me time. dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com

Sometimes TIME is more precious than Money. I make myself stick to a time line, its SO easy to stray and get sidetracked, I set my phone alarm and I give myself 30 mins of me time a day, it may seem like you can’t take a mini me break but it really helps to refocus yourself, have a cup of tea or even just sit for a full 30 mins a day.

    458. I take advantage of sales and deals throughout the year and slowly build my stash of presents for Christmas. Then the remaining things I still need to get, I buy online. If I have to go to the store, I make a list of all the things I need, I go in the morning where there are less people and I stick to my list so I wont get distracted by other things. This way I can avoid the Christmas rush and spend more time with family.

    673. I get back time by using gift bags instead of wrapping presents, unless they are very special, and then I wrap them.

€œWhat are some ways you get back time during the busy holiday season?€

I plan my time to begin with, and schedule rest days… to just enjoy it all. Flylady also helps.

    679. Some years, I just don’t have time to do it all. I have to say no to something…and I do!

    680. Online shopping was so useful this holiday season. It’s much easier to multi-task every day chores and getting my shopping done at the same time. No lines, no traffic, no time wasted.

    695. I take the time to breath. Sometimes we get so caught up on getting stuff done that we end up getting less done because we are exhausted.

    696. It may seem odd but my way to get back time is by being the person that volunteers to bring chips or coke to the party; whether it€™s family or work. That way I just bring that stuff and I save the time that would be spent buying groceries, preparing a meal and cleaning up the mess.
