Real Cost Calculator by Aflac

Lately I have been having issues with my abdomen.  I was hospitalized in February with diverticulitis and referred to a gastro specialist to make sure “everything was okay”.  The cost of my hospital stay and services exceeded $15,000 and I didn’t even have surgery.  Unfortunately I don’t have health insurance either and I was super irresponsible and accidentally let my AFLAC Hospitalization policy lapse.  Huge mistake!  I do still currently pay on my AFLAC Accident policy but plan on getting my other policy back soon.

I’ve been a customer with AFLAC for over 10 years and it’s been a savior more times than I care to think about….  From covering my husband’s staples in his head from the hide-and-go seek game gone wrong to the coverage for my hysterectomy a little over a year ago our AFLAC policies have been a blessing.

I don’t think I have cancer, but if I did the estimated cost* to me and my family would be over $55,000.  Can you imagine that?   As a full-time blogger and social media consultant that is a pretty damaging figure.  I believe it might be a bit conservative as well.  According to the Real Cost Calculator, a new innovative tool from Aflac that helps users understand the real cost associated with illnesses and injuries an Aflac policy could pay out roughly $17,000 directly to me – not to the hospital to help with the costs associated with Colorectal Cancer.
