Protecting Your Identity Online: Shopping for the Holidays #LifeLock

 When shopping online for the holidays there are a few things you can do to protect yourself.  Protecting your identity online is crucial this time of the year. It’s important to keep in mind that sitting behind a computer screen with a credit card doesn’t protect you from threats of identity theft.  This time of year you are probably more vulnerable than others and each shopping trip you take online doesn’t have to be stressful if you take precautions.

I have been fortunate enough to have never been victim to online identity theft due to shopping (or any other identity theft personally).  I believe it is not only because I have LifeLock protecting my identity (my cards are registered with LifeLock), but because I follow simple rules when shopping online as well.

• Do not shop on sites that you are not familiar with or that are not secure (encrypted – https).
• Be mindful of your security settings on your computer.
• Do not store your credit card information with sites for future purchases.
• Stay up to date on your credit card statements.
• Go with your gut.  Be mindful of suspicious sites.
