P&G Conserve-it-All: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

P&G Conserve-it-All

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

When P&G asked us to take a challenge and see what small, creative things we could do as a family to reduce waste we decided to reduce our energy waste and have an home energy audit done by our local power company.  We were able to identify the things that were costing us the most and we learned additional things we could do to save even more money by reducing our consumption such as putting up tint on the windows and using our fans instead of air conditioning.   We started reusing our K-Cups to plant seedlings for our garden instead of throwing them away and we put a new, more organized program together for our recycling of our plastic, paper, and glass.

But that isn’t all….we took the challenge very seriously and this year we planted our first full size garden using natural compost from our compost pile as fertilizer.  We have been feeding our chickens our kitchen scraps and the droppings from our dwarf rabbits have been very valuable in the garden. Not only will we have fresh eggs this summer to eat, but the vegetables will feed both my family and my chickens….making less of a carbon footprint and saving us a lot of money and gas.

What have you and your family done to make an impact?

  1. Love the video! Your garden is awesome and Bella is adorable. I’m expecting some fresh veggies this year!

    • Awww, thanks. Bella (the chicken running around in the video chasing butterflies) is always entertaining. Let me see some pics of your garden!

  2. I can’t wait to plant my garden this summer! We just moved to five acres last week and I’m most excited about having a garden. I’ve always lived in the suburbs so it will be a new venture for me.

  3. Hi Lisa! Just a quick hello from me to let you know I’ve been reading around the blogosphere and stumbled on your website – I think from a comment you made on greenandcleanmom.org. Anyhow, I like what you’re doing here!
