carbonite get it now

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month so it’s the perfect time to bring up this subject. About four years ago I got a virus on my laptop. My laptop was my primary computer at the time and I used it for everything. I probably had 100,000 photographs on it that dated back to when my son was little. I probably had 20 blog articles written and saved for a rainy day and I had all my files for my taxes, contracts, and other financial things sitting on my hard drive. What I didn’t have was a back up. Nothing. Zero. Zilch and when that virus hit my computer I was devastated. So I did what any one of us would do that didn’t have protection like Carbonite and I hired someone to come get everything they could off the hard drive and save it for me. A loss recovery expert.

Unfortunately the loss recovery expert I hired ended up knowing less than I did and after spending 3 hours making it look like he knew what he was doing I realized he had beads of sweat building on his forehead. I noticed his breathing was getting irregular and it was at that time I knew he had done the unthinkable. He completely wiped my hard drive clean. Gone were the photos of my son taking his very first steps, his first day of school, his first birthday, his second, his third. Gone were my contracts, my emails and my contacts for the brands I was working with at the time. Gone were all those posts and photographs I had saved for a rainy day. I had nothing.

I was sick.

I thought about just quitting at that point.

But I didn’t. I rebuilt everything and what I couldn’t replace I learned to live without, but I swore I would never let that happen to me again. I asked around and a bunch of fellow bloggers recommended getting Carbonite to backup my files just in case something like this were ever to happen again. But I am going to confess, I never did it. I got busy. I didn’t have the money at the time. I always had an excuse. I lived the last 5 years at risk, again. Most people get serious when they lose data, like the owners of Carbonite. When family members lost their data David and Jeff got serious and founded Carbonite as a safe and secure backup system so it wouldn’t happen again.

Well, I’m happy to report, thanks to Influence Central and Carbonite I FINALLY DID IT!

carbonite 2

I spent the last week test driving the trial period and finally upgraded to a year long subscription! You can use the Promo Code INFLUENCECENTRAL and get two (2) additional FREE months of service, after a subscription plan has been purchased (expires 12/31/2015). It’s a deal too good to pass up. It’s pretty easy too, all you do is INSTALL Carbonite on your computer, BACKUP your files automatically to the cloud and hopefully you will never have to RESTORE them – whether it’s due to accidentally deleting a file or having your system crash.  You can also ACCESS your files from the internet or from a mobile device.  The cost is FAR LESS than what I paid the loss recovery expert 5 years ago too!

Cost?

I got the Basic plan that meets all my needs for $59.99/year per computer. It offers everything I need including automatic online backup for my photos, music, documents and more. I never have to worry about missing out on anything from my kids growing up again!  There is also a Plus plan for $99.99 and does all the same as the basic plan but also backs up an external hard drive.  The Prime plan is $149.99/year per computer. This is the top of the line plan with automatic video backup and the option to have a copy of your backup shipped to you(in the US) if you need it. All their plans come with premium support for free, unlimited cloud backup, and mobile app access to sync and share files between devices.

In honor of October being Cyber Security Awareness Month please be mindful of your data and backup – don’t put it off until it is too late.

Are you protected?

Sounds like protection all of us could use. Thanks for the tip.
