How to Make Tahini for Hummus Recipe from Scratch
I recently wanted to make some homemade hummus from some chickpeas I had on hand but realized I didn’t have any tahini. Tahini provides that flavor in hummus that you can’t quite get otherwise and you can purchase it in some specialty stores but it really is easier and much better tasting if you make it homemade from scratch.
- 1/4 c sesame seeds
- 3 – 4 T olive oil
- If sesame seeds are not toasted, toast them lightly in a pre-heated 300 degree oven for 5 minutes. Do not allow them to brown or burn.
- Add sesame seeds to food processor.
- Pour in olive oil.
- Grind into a pour-able paste (usually takes about 5 minutes) while scraping down the sides.
This recipe yields just enough Tahini to make delicious homemade hummus. I’ll be sure to share my recipe soon!
