How to Install Window Blinds

When it comes to selecting top window covers, curtains and blinds are usually the best choices. While curtains are easily the number one option most people would go for; window blinds are slowly becoming more prominent in American households.

There are different types of blinds to choose from, such as vertical blinds, Venetian blinds, and aluminum blinds, to name a few. Since they come in different variations and are relatively cheaper than premium curtains, finding the right kind of screens will be a bang for your buck.

Nonetheless, you might be wondering about how to install the blinds. It is pretty simple; however, hiring an expert would save you the hassle. To help you with the installation, here is a step by step guide on how to install window blinds:

Make your mark

After purchasing blinds, check whether all the parts are complete. While there may be variations in pieces depending on the type of blinds, your package should at least include most of the following:

  • Cords, Strings, and Loops
  • Valance Clips and Corners
  • Mounting Brackets
  • Wands and Wand Tips
  • Bead Chain
  • Bottom Rail Parts

If all of these are present, get a pencil and start marking where you will mount your mounting brackets. Depending on the type of blinds, two options for the mounting location are available. You can use an outside mount or an inside mount. An outside mount is where the mounting brackets are within the most exterior part of your window. On the other hand, an inside mount is on the inner window frame. Also, mark the holed area where you will be drilling.

Attach the bracket and valance

After making sure that your marks are well aligned, get a hold of the mounting brackets and attach them to the marked frames by drilling. Once you have finished attaching the brackets, you can proceed to install the valance by snapping the valance clips in the proper area in the headrail.

Install the wands

The wands open and close the blind. To install it, you must insert the tip of the wand at the end of the hook found in the valance corner.

How to adjust the blinds to the proper length

If you find that your blinds are too long, you can always opt to customize them according to your window height. To do so, you must remove the plastic retaining tabs ends found on the strings at the bottom of the blinds.

Once you have removed this stopper, you can remove blind slats accordingly and cut the strings to your desired length. Once you have achieved the measure that you want, tie the end of the rope and attach the plastic retaining tabs again.

Installing a window blind is relatively easy. However, there may be some differences depending on which type of blinds you prefer. While vertical blinds are generally the most popular option, a faux wood window blind would require more expertise due to its unique material.

Nonetheless, blinds provide one of the best window cover methods. Not only are they aesthetic, but they are also convenient as you only need to pull the string beads to open or close the blinds. If you are planning to install one, you do not have to worry about installation costs as you can do it all by yourself.
