Do You Share Your Vacation & Travel Plans Via Social Media?

During the summer months we tend to travel more than normal because James has no school.  It’s always a security issue since almost all the travel our family does is sponsored by one company or another and as part of that I am somewhat obligated to share our vacation details using my various social media outlets.  I am personally never worried about sharing information online but my husband isn’t as “easy going” as I am about things like security.

To have a worry-free vacation there are certain things we do to ensure our piece of mind.  I won’t share all our family secrets, but the one thing we make sure to do is have someone who regularly checks on our home while we are away.  We do have a pretty good alarm system, but it is just as important to us to have “real people” checking in too.  We also do everything we can to avoid identity theft during travel.  Not only do we notify our bank when we travel, but we also try to utilize cash more than cards when making purchases.  In addition we are very conscientious about who is around when we use our cards. Remember to be careful entering pin codes and having your credit card numbers visible to people around you!

Identity Theft in the Summertime

Since most of our travel is between Georgia, Florida, and California we really need to play very close attention to identity theft.  I was not at all surprised that these were three of the five top states where identity theft was most prevalent in the summer.  I was really surprised to find that 12,000 laptops go missing at airports a WEEK.  Can you imagine?  I would flip out if that happened to me!
What are you most surprised about?
Do you know anyone who has had their identity stolen?

I was surprised to see that even the hotel industry is involved.
You have to be careful when traveling and the hotel industry is much more careful now than it used to be. They never mention your room number (it is written on the card holder).
