Creating a Man Approved Garage

Creating a Man Approved Garage

Some men want a garage where they can relax and hang out with friends, while some just want a place that is organized to store equipment. Either way, gone are the days where your car is bumping into bikes or driving over soccer balls. Surprise your man with needed update or even a whole new garage.

When creating a man approved garage, first decide what your garage is going to be mainly used for. Is it the obvious choice…cars? But what else…storage, sports equipment, tools? Next, decide how you want your garage to look. Once you have decided, go for it! Choose a theme or choose utility, whatever is best for you.

Durable Storage

Every homeowner wants to keep their garage gear in good condition, so keep it safely out of the way in cabinets or shelves. Monkey Bars shelving system are a durable solution because they are powder coated and made from industrial grade steel and can hold 1000 lbs every 4 ft. Garage shelving should be able to hold the heaviest of items, so even if your man and his buddies are hanging out, nothing will get broken.

Designated Spaces

Create designated spaces for tools, fishing gear, and sports equipment. There are a variety of accessories available in the market to help store all the essentials. Some favorites include a tool pegboard. The pegboard wall doesn’t have to be huge, 3’ x 3’ is generally large enough for the average guy. Hang it over a low cabinet or a utility desk to emphasize design. For the active lifestyle, get hooks and racks for your shelves to hold fishing poles, kayaks, and sports equipment.

Customize the Essentials

When installing cabinets don’t think you have to go with the standard size and color. With cabinets you can customize them so they are man approved. Add flare and style with a bright red or a warm brown. Add wheels if you or your man spends time in the garage working on cars or equipment and wants something that can be moved easily. If you don’t need larger cabinets, go for a smaller style. Saving space is always man approved.

Organize Storage

A man approved trick is to get into storage the least amount of times as possible. For all the holiday decor that you only need during certain times of the year, store it up out of the way. Either in the top part of your cabinets or in overhead storage racks. The key to organization is to store short term items down low and long term up high.

Finishing Touches

Lastly, think about your garage floor. Is it in good shape? Or, are there cracks and stains? A garage floor can set the tone of your garage. With a quick floor update, your garage can look years younger. An option for a superior garage is modular co-polymer flooring, which is not only stylish, but is also stain and slip resistant. Additionally, if you plan on moving in the future the flooring can be removed and reinstalled in your new home. With easy clean up and the ability to be transferred to different spaces, it’s certainly man approved.

However you decide to design your garage, just decide on an idea and run with it. You can personalize your garage to fit both your needs and style.

  1. Monkey Bars shelving is a great recommendation for a garage. I stuck with standard cabinet sizes in my garage, however. They were much cheaper than having something custom sized whipped up.
