Bar S Hot Dog Meat Sauce Recipe

We try to go camping every year, but some times things get in the way and we just can’t find the time to sneak away.  You can always tell when that happens because chances are you will drive by our house and see a tent in the yard or our family gathered around the fire pit cooking out hot dogs or roasting marshmallows. There is nothing like preparing your food and eating it outdoors with family and friends.  Wouldn’t you agree?

We enjoy doing hot dogs in the summer because you can eat them plain or dress them up with a ton of different things such as raw onion, cole slaw, sauerkraut, meat sauce or chili sauce (depending on where you are from), relish, ketchup, mustard or whatever catches your fancy. Most all the topping choices are also portable and that makes it even better.  Some times though, there is nothing like a plain Bar-S hot dog…with nothing but bun!

But when our family wants more we usually go with the Hot Dog Meat Sauce Recipe my Gramma used to make.  It’s quick & easy so you can spend more time with your family and friends and less time in the kitchen!

Hot Dog Meat Sauce

Hot dogs are a quick, easy meal and perfect for summer but when plain dogs won’t do we throw together this go-to hot dog chili or meat sauce.  Not only does it take less than 30 minutes to prepare, but most households have all the ingredients already in their home.

Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef (80% lean)

1/3 cup water

1/2 cup tomato sauce

1/2 cup ketchup

1 t. garlic powder

1/2 t. onion powder (or 1/4 minced onion)

1/2 t. sugar

1/2 t. black pepper

1/2 t. Worcestershire sauce

1/2 t. hot sauce

Directions

In a saucepan add ground beef and water.  Continuously break meat into smaller pieces as it cooks and meat is browned.  Add remaining ingredients and cook over low to medium heat for 15 minutes or until thickened.

Add to your hot dog along with your favorite toppings such as cole slaw.  Enjoy!
