Angel Food Ministries Alternative for Savvy Food Shoppers

How would you like about $70 of food for a third of the price?  Well, I found the answer – Angel Food Ministries.  Started 1994 to provide food for friends and neighbors who were struggling financially, the Angel Food program now is helping provide food relief to more than 500,000 families each month.  You do not have to have a religious affiliation to purchase food through this organization.

From their website:

“Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system.”

They have changed a lot over the years and now have lots of options to choose from including allergen-free foods, convenience meals, seafood packs, after school snack packs, fruit & veggie add-ons, and so much more. I have purchased from them before and I was really surprised by the amount of food you get! You can even buy gift cards for others who might need a little help at making their food budget stretch. I’m actually looking into signing up for this again.

Down side? Although they have thousands of locations, they are not located in every state. To find an Angels Food Ministry near you check out their locator.

Haha, information you write it very clean. I€™m very lucky to get this information from you. 😛

  2. We did this once after reading a ton about it. It was SO gross. I’m sorry, I just want to give my honest opinion. The meat was the worst, it was like, the lowest of all low grade meat. I know they say that isn’t the case, but they are crazy. And the pre packaged stuff was awful as well. Yes, the price is amazing, but I can truthfully say I don’t think it was worth half of what we paid. Just be careful. Give it a shot and be prepared to walk away the following month. I’ve heard both awesome and awful reviews so I think it depends a lot on location.

    • Lee,
I never thought of that – it could depend on the location. I’m lucky. Everything I got here in GA has been great – not the $9.99/lb. meat, but more than edible. Caveat: If you are expecting Outback Steaks this is not the plan for you.

      Thanks for the insight Lee.
