Rapid changes in technology have made possible things which were only pipe dreams only five or ten years ago. Video technology is perhaps the greatest change thanks to live video streaming, teleconferencing, and video sharing which are useful not just for entertainment purposes but also for businesses. And yet even the IT sector isn’t yet utilizing video sharing to its full potential. Video conferencing systems such as Blue Jeans make video sharing for IT departments easy and convenient. Here are just a few of the advantages:

  1. Building a Global Workplace

Remote working is becoming increasingly popular for both financial and personal reasons. The ability to record, save, and share video files, even videos of online meetings, is one method which makes this new way of working possible. Say somebody couldn’t make an important meeting because they are in a different time zone and the meeting took place during the middle of the night in their local time. They may not be able to join in with the meeting, but they can at least catch up with all the points made during the meeting so they aren’t left behind.

  1. Reaching Remote Locations

Faster internet connections make video streaming meetings easier, but we still do occasionally find ourselves with a weak or non-existent connection. When live streaming isn’t possible, you can still upload and save video files to your computer or device and watch them later. This is useful for somebody who is travelling to a remote location or is unsure if they will have a reliable connection in the near future. Again, it means that everybody can be caught up with what is going on in a company and nobody is left out of the loop.

  1. Marketing

Expensive and annoying television adverts aren’t the only method of reaching consumers anymore. Video ads now appear everywhere on the internet. An article in The Guardian outright states that video will become the future of content marketing in just a few years’ time. Ads aren’t the only method to make use of video marketing. There are also seminars, v-logs, instructional videos, and numerous other methods to use video for marketing purposes. Even a small one person business can set up their own YouTube channel, make videos with their smartphone, and promote them for free on social media to reach new customers or clients. Marketing departments are coming up with new methods all the time to adjust for changes in technology and new trends. Even so, the Guardian article claims that only half of all companies are using video in their marketing plan and losing out on potentially millions of new consumers.

  1. Giving Employees a Voice

Many employees feel that they can’t speak up at work or share their ideas with colleagues. According to an interview in Film Industry Network, video is a convenient method for employees to get their voice and ideas out there and showcase their skills. This could be by voicing their opinion in an online meeting, which is less pressure than an in-person meeting for some people, or e-mailing a video to colleagues which is much more likely to be seen than an e-mail. Video technology is giving a voice to more people than ever before and business is no exception.

  1. Faster Communication

You can probably still remember when you could only check your answerphone when you got home at the end of the day or your e-mails when you arrived in the office the next morning. Today, almost everybody carries a smartphone in their pocket and can be reached instantly. Many argue that there are downsides to this and it is true that nobody should feel like they have their phones surgically attached to themselves at all times. But in the case of an emergency or urgent deadline, it is much more reassuring to know that you can reach any of your colleagues whenever you need to, and that includes sharing video files which even just a few years ago would take a long time to download.

  1. Reducing Costs

One of the most commonly cited benefits of video technology is the financial rewards. The ability to video chat and share files digitally cuts down on the need to travel for meetings, post documents, or make long international phone calls. The reduced travel costs make employees happier and more productive and the reduced costs to the business improve profit margins and free up the budget for more important things.

Video technology is changing the very face of the internet so IT departments should be emphasizing the importance of it to all other departments. Keeping up with current and future developments should allow your entire company to stay ahead of the curve and avoid any missed opportunities.
