Sunsweet Bakery: Plum-Infused Baked Goods

Recently I was asked to review a new line of baked goods from Sunsweet Bakery, featuring plum-infused baked goods. I was somewhat hesitant as I follow a low carb diet but agreed to try them on my friends and family.

DisclosureJust a few days before Easter I received a Plum Walnut Loaf Cake and a large box of Plum Walnut Bites which were like a small breakfast pastry. I promptly called my next door neighbor and her husband for coffee and treats. The Plum Walnut Loaf Cake was an instant hit and the opinion was that it tasted moist and would even be delicious in the toaster oven. The loaf cake had bits of Plum Amazins which are dried plum bits , walnuts and a purple swirl and not only was it delicious ( I broke down and had a piece which had 24 carbs which was manageable for an Easter treat.) but I found out that since it was made with dried plums it was higher in antioxidents, higher in fiber and lower in sugar than raisins or cranberries.

The Plum Walnut bites had dried plums, cinnamon and walnuts with a sweet vanilla glaze. They were small in size and tasted homemade. The carb count in these were lower than the loaf cake so I tried one of those also. They were absolutely to die for.
Many of these new bakery products include purple wheat and purple corn which not only enhance the nutritional value but create a beautiful purple appearance. They make a Purple Country Bread as well as a Swirl Bread. Imagine the gorgeous sandwiches you could make with this bread. This was my first time trying Sunsweet baked goods and they were absolutely delicious. My husband who does not normally eat fruit finished off the Plum Walnut bites and has almost finished the loaf cake. We even sent a small plate home with the neighbors.

The unfortunate part of this is that Sunsweet Bakery items can be found at Costco in Southern California and the Southwest with additional rollouts scheduled through 2013 and we live in the Northeast. My husband is hooked on them and hopefully they will make it to the Adirondacks or we may have to take a vacation to California.
