Just Scratching the Surface of the Surface Pro 3

I have been wanting a Surface Pro 3 since they came out. My laptop, despite its 17 inches of awesome display, just isn’t thrilling me like it used to. I think the biggest reason is because of its size. Lugging my laptop around when we travel is kind of a pain. Because my computer is so cumbersome, I stopped traveling with it altogether and have been trying to get by with just a smart phone. Leaving my computer at home, over time, has definitely decreased my productivity. Having so much work to do when I get home has also made blogging more stressful. Traveling with a device as portable as a tablet with the functionality of a computer is just what I have been needing.

After using the Surface Pro 3 for a few weeks the romance is far from dead. Surface Pro 3 is actually very fast even compared to my phone and laptop. Although I haven’t used it that long I haven’t experienced any issues with it at all. I’ve been using my Surface Pro 3 just about everywhere I go. I can even work on the bed covers if I want to without worrying about it overheating like my laptop.

Sometimes I like to work in solitude other times I enjoy being out and about. Having a smaller more portable computer makes it easier to work on the go. Whether I am working from the park, the lakefront, or from my hammock, the Surface Pro 3 hasn’t disappointed me yet.

I really like the built in kickstand on the Surface Pro 3. With it you don’t have to worry about the screen flopping all around when you type from precarious positions or when your kids are running around all over the place.

I also like how the keyboard and power cables attach magnetically. I never have to fumble around with the keyboard as it just sticks to where it needs to be. The power cable cord can either face up or down depending on your position and pulls right out to keep people from tripping over it and possibly shattering the screen. I can’t tell you how many devices we have lost this way…

I am also satisfied with the responsiveness of the keyboard and touch pad. The keys don’t have to be pressed very hard and it is very accurate compared to other devices I’ve used. The keyboard also attaches magnetically to the computer either flat or at a slight incline to give you a more ergonomic place to work from.

The touchpad is as sensitive as I needs it to be. I prefer using a mouse but when I can’t the touchpad works just fine and I don’t hate it at all.

Using the pen is pretty neat. I pretty much just use it to write myself reminders in One Note although I occasionally doodle. I definitely want to spend a little more time with it.

I haven’t had my Surface Pro 3 for very long but I am taking it with me pretty much everywhere. As I learn more about its features over the next few weeks, I will keep you updated.

  1. It definitely looks cool! I like the flexibility of it and the part about not burning up your lap like a laptop does, mine is doing that right now as I type, lol
