Recipe: Honey Glazed Barbecue Chicken

This post brought to you by TUMS. All opinions are 100% mine.

Since BBQ season is upon us it’s time to focus on grilling out and backyard get togethers for family and friends.  Every year we have traditional favorites that we incorporate into our feasts such as our grilled corn and hotlips butter and smok’n bbq ribs or bbq chicken.  One of our go-to recipes is chicken thighs topped with my homemade honey BBQ glaze.  It’s definitely a hit at all our parties and it is pretty easy to make.

Honey Glazed BBQ Chicken

  • Chicken Thighs
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/8 cup minced onion
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Prepare grill.  In the meantime, parboil chicken thighs for 20 minutes on stove, this helps to ensure the chicken is cooked thoroughly and speeds up the grilling time.

In a sauce pan add olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until softened and slightly caramelized.  Next add ketchup, vinegar, honey and remaining ingredients.  Simmer on low for 10 to 15 minutes.  Remove sauce from stove and lightly baste chicken thighs for grilling.

Place chicken thighs on grill basting each side with sauce and turning every 5 to 7 minutes for 20 minutes.  Using a meat thermometer ensure chicken is cooked thoroughly, remove to serving plate and baste one final time before serving.

Since some of us have more sensitive stomachs than others we rely on TUMS to provide on-the-go relief when things get too spicy.  For a limited time you can buy TUMS with a FREE 8 count roll at participating Walmart stores! I particularly pick out all the orange TUMS since they are my favorite flavor, but regardless of color they all work great at calming my upset stomach.  Since Walmart is the best place to stock up on TUMS Free Roll make sure you stop in before your next barbecue.

  2. Lisa, thanks for bringing this over to the BBQ. I hope to see you again soon. Cheers

  3. My goodness. That looks so good…. I don’t know if a chicken can be “fresh” or not – but it certainly looks it here. Besides looking very tasty, it looks juicy and tender. I’m going to have to try your recipe VERY soon. Thanks for the recipe.
