Popping the Question: Creative Ideas to Make Her Smile

She’s the one…. after several years of courtship, you’re finally ready to trade in your bachelor card for that one, special girl. So now all that’s left to do is figure out how you’re going to tell her. After all, this is going to be one of the most important days of her life (aside from the wedding day itself). You want to find a romantic yet unique way to pop the question to your one and only lady. Also, if I’m completely honest… this story will be told for years to come by everyone who wants to know your love story. So it’s probably best to make it worthwhile.

Engagement Ring Tip: If you’ve been together for more than two years, chances are she’s already started throwing out hints about the type of ring she wants. Be sure to choose something that really speaks to her character and symbolizes your love for her. If she’s a non-traditional type of girl, you might select something like Front Jewelers’ pink sapphire rings.

Public Proposal Ideas

If you’re bold and most certain that she’s going to say yes, then going public is a great way to surprise your girl.

  • Restaurant Proposal – Call ahead of time to try and set something up. Maybe you can have the ring inside a glass of champagne, or maybe you want to incorporate the staff by asking for special services such as music.
  • Sports Game Proposal – If you’re girl is into sports, then getting your proposal up on the jumbotron is a great idea. Of course you’ll want to call the arena to find out how the whole process works and how much it will cost. She’ll certainly be shocked to see her name up in lights during halftime.
  • Park Proposal – If she’s more of a nature girl, then take her for a stroll through the park. You can invite her friends and family to meet in a certain location and even hire performers (a band, dancers, a choir) to entertain her as you drop down on one knee in front of everyone she loves.

Digital Proposal Ideas

For all you millennial guys out there, you can certainly find a way to make a marriage proposal fun while still incorporating modern technology.

  • Video Proposal – You can create your own video or slideshow of photos of the two of you. Add some music, a meaningful poem or words from the heart and watch it with your lady. At the end of the video, you can either have the proposal appear on the screen or you can bend down on one knee and ask her yourself.
  • Movie Theater Madness-Contact your local movie theater to find out how much it would cost to display your proposal on the big screen. Be sure to get there on time and surprise her on screen.
  • Create a YouTube Video – Create your own video expressing your love and admiration for your girlfriend. At the end of the video, simply pop the question. Inbox your girlfriend via social media and share the link! Be sure you’re in the area so that once she’s done viewing the video you can place the ring on her finger.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. Whether you’re proposing for the first time, or you want to renew your vows, making that moment special and unique is important. Make it a moment she’ll remember by going out of your way to show that you care. Whether you’re in public, in the company of friends and family, or it’s just the two of you, she’ll appreciate the effort you put forth.

I like the champagne proposal. Nothing like starting off on the right foot.

  2. I love the idea of the park proposal or the movie theater one. Mine was done at my house with just me. course he would have no clue that as he was proposing I was actually on the phone with my grandmother.
