Hosting the Host: Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen

I pride myself on being a pretty decent cook. I make freshly cooked meals for my family several times a week, and more often than not I create flavorful dishes that are exciting and delicious. One of the reasons I cook is to save us money from eating out at expensive restaurants, and another reason is that it’s hard to find food that has the same “made-from-scratch” flavor.  Last year a new restaurant opened near our home called Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. We put off trying it until the PR company reached out and told us about their new Hosting the Hosts: Providing a Fresh Start to the New Year incentive.

Everyone has a host in their family who makes guests feel like family – they’re genuine, warm and welcoming; and the holidays are no exception. To kick-off the New Year with a fresh start, we’re encouraging families to treat those hard-working hosts to a scratch-made meal. Guests will savor the length of preparation time done in the early morning hours, the quality of scratch made goodness, and a rare moment for hosts to enjoy precious family time in a warm and inviting environment – with absolutely no work required.

That was their pitch, and we decided to try it out and see if it was as good as my cooking.

The Verdict: Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen

Upon arrival, I knew there had to be some validity to what they were saying as there was a line out the door. The wait time for us was 20 minutes and the line moved along quickly, so it was more like 10 – 15 minutes, but it was worth it. Service was good, but it was the food and the flavor that sold it to me. We got an appetizer, The Triple Treat Sampler, that included their chicken tenders, and I have to say, they are the moistest, tender chicken strips that I’ve had for a long time, and I just LOVE Wisconsin Cheese Bites! For our main courses, we got the Sirloin Steak and Ribs with a side of grilled shrimp. The sauce on the shrimp was out of this world! I loved it. I would get that again, but it was the ribs that stole my heart. As a matter of fact, I have been back since to order ribs to go. Not only are they moist, but they are flavorful, and the sauce on the ribs was caramelized perfectly. I admit it, they are better than mine.  Finally, don’t forget to order some crescent rolls…they are equally amazing!

If we had one where we live I would love it. Sounds like a terrific place.
