We were really quite surprised that such a small box could be holding our new Nature’s Sleep 8″ St. Bart’s Memory Foam Mattress.  I figured whoever packed this KING size mattress into this little box must have had one heck of a vacuum to get all the air out.  With that in mind I was somewhat concerned that once we decided to open the box and record the mattress expansion that it would 1) have an odor from packaging and 2) take forever to get it’s shape so that we could sleep on it.  Fortunately neither of those things happened when my husband finally opened the box – much to my surprise.  As you will see in the video my directions were very clear, DO NOT OPEN THE BOX until I am ready so that I can video tape it.  I’m not sure what compelled him to open it without me.  He already knows if we go out to eat, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FOOD until I have taken a picture of it.  When will he ever learn?

I’m happy to report the mattress, within 15 minutes was fully removed from the box and set up in our bedroom ready for us to sleep on it!  There was no odor at all from the vacuum packing (or whatever trick they used to get it to fit in the box) and it was soft and squishy.  I never had a memory foam mattress before but the mattress we replaced was a very high-end exclusive mattress that cost over $2,000.  Our previous mattress was super deep and I wasn’t sure how the 8″ St. Bart’s would hold up.  There was only one way to tell…..ZZzzzzZZZZzzzz

I am happy to report that we got rid of our old mattress and haven’t regretted it at all.  Hubby is somewhat of an insomniac and he is always tossing and turning, but I hardly ever feel him moving around and have been able to get much better sleep.  Since I have sleep apnea and severe hypersomnia it’s important for me to sleep good.  I can feel every crumb in a bed so a mattress full of springs poking me or uneven pillowtop stuffing can mean for some horrible sleep.  I once had a mattress where the spring cut my leg in the middle of the night which resulted in stitches.  There is nothing like that with a memory foam mattress like this one.  It’s pure squishiness (this is not a real word) with just the right amount of support.
