Making #Wholesome Choices Is a Lifestyle Choice: My Journey

Over the past couple years I have learned so much about living a healthy, #wholesome lifestyle but unfortunately I don’t always stay on track.  My journey to become healthier for me and my family gets derailed by life quite frequently.  I think that happens to a lot of people and making the conscious effort to get back on “the program” is our choice.  At the end of 2011 I made the choice to make some changes and began with some medical procedures I needed done, such as my hysterectomy.  I also filled all my prescriptions for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and arthritis (in my left ankle).  I know if I continue to make the right choices I will eventually be able to eliminate a lot of the meds I take.

At a recent event hosted by Atlanta McDonald’s we were discussing #Wholesome choices, fitness, etc.  It was a great reminder for me that breakfast is THE important meal, that MOVING frequently throughout the day doesn’t have to be cumbersome, and that sharing your goals with others helps to make you accountable.

Did you know that McDonald’s has made a lot of wholesome changes to their menu?  Have you noticed that in the Happy Meal now the french fries are tiny and they added apple slices?  I think that was ingenious (and the tiny fries are so dang cute)!  Also they have healthy choices such as oatmeal with fruit and yogurt parfaits.  I personally have been alternating my breakfast over the past two week with oatmeal, yogurt, and Egg McMuffins.  Through the McDonald’s “Made For You” cooking system, you can special order various menu items to help meet your nutritional needs. A range of serving sizes make it easy to create meal combinations that work for you and your family.  For instance, I do my Egg McMuffins without the cheese.  All of these are under 300 calories and a #wholesome way to start my morning.  My fav?  The Fruit & Maple Oatmeal.

McDonald’s is committed to giving us more delicious choices to feel good about in the months and years to come. Regardless of your dietary needs, you’ll find nutrient-minded choices at McDonald’s.

What are some of the #Wholesome choices you are making?
