Making a Natural Difference in Saint Cloud Florida

To promote Smucker’s partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) in launching the Make a Natural Difference campaign, I decided to make a difference through promoting my favorite local parks. Each of these parks have walking trails of varying distances and lots of opportunities to encounter wildlife and experience stunning vistas which are perfect for building photography skills, spending time with family, and enjoying nature.

Lake Lizzie Nature Preserve, Lakefront Park, Lake Runnymeade Conservation Area, and Shingle Creek Regional Park are all located in the Kissimmee/Saint Cloud area in Central Florida within driving distance of all of the major attractions.

At Lake Lizzie Nature Preserve (6495 Old Melbourne Hwy St. Cloud FL 34771) you have 2 trails to choose from. There is a 1.7 mile trail ending at the Marsh Loop as well as a 6 mile trail (my favorite). Horses are welcome! If you are facing the park from the street and walk down the trail to the left you will find yourself headed down the shorter of the two trails. The trails are marked and easy to follow. At the end of the 6 mile trail located to the right you will find several covered picnic tables with grills and restrooms. At the 3 mile mark you can enjoy a spectacular view of Lake Lizzie from the comfort of a shaded bench. Be sure to bring your own water and stay hydrated, especially in the summer!

Lakefront Park (1104 Lakeshore Blvd, St Cloud, FL 34769) boasts a spectacular view of East Lake Toho along with paved walking/biking trails, a volleyball court, fishing pier, performing arts pavilion, swimming area, and a waterpark/playground for young children. Water fountains and restrooms are located throughout the area and there are eateries nearby, but you can always bring a picnic lunch featuring Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter sandwiches!

Lake Runnymeade Conservation Area (4600 Rummell Rd; Saint Cloud, Florida 34771) is a nice, quiet, and secluded area with 2 very short but sweet walking trails. Both trails loop between humongous oak trees draped in Spanish moss. There are restroom facilities, a fire pit, as well as picnic areas.

Shingle Creek Regional Park (4266 W Vine St, Kissimmee, FL 34741) has 1.3 miles of trails, a boardwalk, and several historic buildings to enjoy. From placards preceding each of the properties you can learn a bit of local history. My favorite part of the walking trail is the boardwalk that meanders through the swampland.
