For the Love of Play

With all the video games these days it is becoming increasingly difficult to get your kids out of the house. It’s not just me either (I asked around). With all the advances in gaming technology who can blame them?  It is really easy to get lost for hours playing on your PlayStation, PC, Smartphone and/or Xbox…

Because kids spend so much time indoors these days, I like to focus most of our family play time outdoors (weather permitting of course). On the weekends or during the summer you can find us either riding bikes around the neighborhood, walk/running nature trails, or even kayaking at least a few times a week depending on our schedule. I truly believe our son is happier for it too. Since I’ve been a more active parent his grades and behavior at school have gotten so much better.

My favorite outdoors activity would definitely be kayaking. Whether we take separate kayaks or go tandem we usually always have a good time. Especially when my son wants to do a little filming for his YouTube channel.

Playing with your kids is fun when you get used to them and that is why Quaker is combining forces with Fuel Up to Play 60 and the NFL in launching the For the Love of Play campaign.  Quaker wants to encourage people to get up and get active because physical activity, in combination with good nutrition, is essential to a healthy lifestyle!

Play is a fun and easy way to teach and spend time with your kids. Whether it is hiking, biking, basketball, football, or playing tag in the backyard, there are many ways to get that recommended 60 minutes of play in.

  18. Mostly, my son just likes to run, so we try to keep up with him. My husband is a huge hockey fan, so we play hockey on our driveway too.

    We love playing soccer and archery. Soccer is our absolute favorite.

  25. We started playing disc golf and we love it. It gets you outdoors, its cheap and almost any age can play and win.
