Join Us: The LISTERINE® #HealthyHabits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge

A select group of bloggers were asked to take The LISTERINE® Healthy Habits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge and as part of our challenge we had a live kick off call with some leading experts in the field where we learned some pretty interesting and scary things.  Did you know that brushing alone misses 75% of your mouth?  That is probably the scariest thing I learned because I never would have thought that rinsing and flossing were so important.  I never knew the order in which you brush, rinse, and floss weren’t important either.  I really learned a lot of tips and tricks involving oral hygiene I will share with you over the next month.

This is my year of change.  I am trying to make conscious choices to live a healthier lifestyle and this program is a perfect fit for me and my family.  Now that James has his permanent teeth coming in it’s more important than ever to make sure he is doing things right.  Dr. Kaneta Lott, DDS (pediatric dentist) shared some great tips with us to help get our kids involved:

  • Make oral care fun (e.g., make it a game; brush, floss and rinse to music; etc).
  • Reward their behavior (e.g., give gold stars for good oral care).
  • Show, don’t tell – make oral care a family affair.
  • Involve them in their own oral care routine by providing products like LISTERINE® Smart Rinse, which can make the daily routine more fun.

We set up a reward calendar for James and he will be earning 25 cents for remembering and completing his daily oral hygiene routine every day (up to 75 cents a day).   We also got fun products from Listerine and Reach to make this even more enjoyable for him such as his new Phineas and Ferb Smart Rinse (find this and other great Listerine and Reach products at Walmart).

Will you join in me in this challenge?

Disclosure: I received products and compensation from Johnson & Johnson and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the Oral Care Challenge. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own.

  1. I think that using Listerine, will sure make the oral cavity healthy, basing on my experience before, I don’t usually use mouthwash instead toothbrush is enough, and I have encountered Gingivitis,it is so much annoying specially the itchiness inside and gum bleeding, so my dentist recommend me to use Listerine. This is a good news specially that out kids can use this.

It is so important to start kids early with good oral hygiene. Listerine has some great rinses for kids and they make cute toothbrushes too.

  3. I love the idea of incentivizing our kids to brush, floss and rinse regularly. It’s so hard these days to get them to want to do it on their own, so I’m going to ‘borrow’ your award calender idea 😉
