The Heart of Haiti Collection at Macy’s
It was not that long ago that a catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti. An estimated 230,000 people died, 300,000 were injured, and 1,000,000 Haitians were made homeless by this disaster. Haiti is a nation of artisans and as a result of the tragic earthquake many were left without hope of income. After the William J. Clinton foundation sent out a plea to private firms to help rekindle the Haitian economy, several brands and organizations got together with Macy’s to launch Macy’s Heart of Haiti Collection.
Rwanda Path to Peace is an initiative that operates similarly to Heart of Haiti and seeks to create a sustainable economy for many of the women in Rwanda who were left without husbands and work after the Rwandan genocide. These products are also part of the Heart of Haiti Collection despite the fact they do not have their own social presence.
We are honored to have been chosen to receive some of these products and are excited to share this with our readership and the world! There are more people that depend on the purchase of artistic goods per capita in Haiti than anywhere else in the entire world and we are glad to be able to promote their artistry.
Most of the products in the Heart of Haiti Collection are made from Paper Mache, Steel, Soapstone, Horn, and even tobacco leaves and all the products are expertly crafted and hand made. You can find the full collection on the Gifts That Give Hope page.
