Enjoying the Wildlife of Florida

Enjoying the Wildlife of Florida

I grew up in Upstate New York in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains and although it is one of the most incredible places I have ever been to there never was as much wildlife there as I’ve seen in Florida.  Granted the gorgeous forests in Hope Falls, NY or Bleecker Mountain will always be one  of my favorite memories, it can be hard to compete with the weather here in Florida.  Whereas normal comfortable gear in Florida may consist of shorts and flip-flops most of the year in NY you have to layer with thermal underwear and snorkel jackets.  It’s just a totally different thing….

There are times when we can look out our front window and see big Sandhill Cranes walking down the middle of the street or even wild turkeys! Two days ago we were standing outside and saw two gorgeous eagles fly overhead and come to find out they nest less than half a mile from our home. Our backyard leads to a canal that is home to all types of birds and animals including a family of owls. This spring we got to enjoy mama feeding her babies and we even got to watch them grow up.  It was really amazing.

Another awesome benefit of living in Florida? It’s nearly impossible to take a bad photograph. My husband loves his canvas as he specializes in nature photography at Lens Lizard Photography. Whether he is taking photos of butterflies or flowers for me or alligators and armadillos for him, there is something to discover just around the corner!

If you come visit Florida for Mickey or Shamu be sure to take some time to discover the gorgeous wildlife we have to offer too!  Make room in your luggage for something other than bathing suits! Don’t forget to grab your walking clothes – our trails are waiting for you!

I hope that Armadillo isn’t walking toward your house?

  2. Awesome! Seems wildlife is a friend there.

  3. That dillo didn’t curl up & run when he saw James? They always scare the daylights out of me (and I think I scare them). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wild turkey before.
